New Year's Mission Statement

So I guess we have officially given 2013 a proper farewell! On to the new year! A new fresh start. While many people continue with the tradition of making resolutions, others make small goals for each month, some people choose a word that will define their year, others choose no goals at all... what should I do? I'm not much of a get-it-done type of person. I would like to say that I will do all these things, but we all know that I most likely won't. I'm excited to see where this year takes me, and the choices that I make for myself, but I don't want to hold myself to a list. Instead, I'm going to write a personal mission statement for the new year. Part of the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is to have a mission statement. A mission statement for every part of your life if possible; family, personal, work - anything goes! Alex and I are going to write one for our year together, but I thought I might write my own personal one as well, and I'll put it on my blog, so you can all hold me accountable!

In 2014, I am going to be better. I will be more motivated, more structured, and more aware of the way I am spending my time. I will make an effort to treat my husband with love and care. I will not be selfish. I will care about others. I will try to act in such a way that when people come in contact with me, they feel better than they did before. I will smile more, complain less, and look for the good in everything - because there IS good in everything, and it would be a shame to miss it. I will love this life I've been given, because it is beautiful, and it is everything I need.

p.s. if you were going to write a mission statement, what would it say? It can be a word, it can be a sentence, it can be a paragraph, or you could write a book with an appendix and annotations if you like! I would love to hear what you come up with!

  1. A life's mission statement is such a great idea. I also heard Steven Covey say the same thing a few years back at USU. Since you asked in your P.S. what each of our mission statement would be I'll tell you mine:

"To raise and support a righteous family."

  2. I like to frame my year around a single word, that way it can have a broad or as narrow a meaning as I want. This year, my word is content.

  6. I wrote a mission statement too after reading 7 Habits, but it was when I was a teen. I think I'll take a leaf out of your book and write another one now that I'm a fully-fledged adult :)
